The contract was for Balance of Plant design and construction of a 51MW wind farm near Crawfordjohn in South Lanarkshire. It included construction of site tracks, WTG foundations (15 no.) for Senvion turbines, crane hardstandings, borrow pits, National Grid compound, substation building, met mast, culvert upgrades, site cabling and switchgear; also construction of public roads.

 

 

Key Issues

• Works immediately adjacent to the SSSI ‘Red Moss’ peat bog
• Track routes and drainage provision onsite re-designed to co-ordinate with existing GWDTEs (groundwater dependent terrestrial ecosystems) of high and moderate sensitivity
• Re-use of excavated materials throughout the landscape works
