Glenfalloch Hydro Electric Scheme

Client: Glenfalloch Estate
Value: £7.80M
Consultant: Natural Power
Completed: 2016

The project was for the construction of two run-of-river hydro-electric schemes – Upper Falloch (0.9MW) and Derrydarroch (1.9MW) – within the Glenfalloch Estate near Crianlarich. The works included 2 powerhouses, 6 intake structures with associated screen and flow arrangements, pipeline, new permanent access track, upgraded access track and temporary access track. Also included was the construction of 3 river-crossing bridges, 2 permanent access track bridges, a railway bridge and trunk road crossing and the installation of 3.5km of 11kV cable.

Key Issues:
• Close liaison with landscape, ecological and archaeological experts throughout the duration of the works
• Adherence to strict planning conditions in order to minimise visual and other impacts
• Installation of safety and diversionary signage for visitors given close proximity of the West Highland Way
• Fulfilment of 15 job vacancies for the term of the contract

Principal Elements included:
Access track (new) 6km
Access track (upgraded) 3km
Access track (temporary) 1km
Pipeline 8.5km
Cable (11kV) 3.5km
