The project was for the widening and realigning of 600m of the B851, a road which links the A9 to communities south of Loch Ness. The existing section of road consisted of a single track road with passing places benched into a steep hillside with properties and a river below the road. The contract benefited from early contractor involvement to find a cost-effective retaining wall solution, utilising 1,750 no. mass concrete interlocking blocks (each 1m3) stacked up to 4 high, precast within 5 miles of the site.
