RJ McLeod were Principal Contractor for the design and build of a new Synchronous Compensator Facility located adjacent to the existing Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm Onshore Substation near Keith, Morayshire.
The project comprised platform earthworks, road construction, reinforced concrete foundations, transformer bunds with integrated 9m-high precast concrete firewalls, construction of the main plant building and installation of perimeter security fencing.

Points of Interest
Construction of a new hardstanding platform within a highly constrained site adjacent to a live electricity substation whilst protecting existing infrastructure
Construction of a portal frame building housing eight Rapid Start Lite Synchronous Compensator machines, each requiring substantial reinforced concrete foundations within a tightly constrained building
Installation of acoustic cladding, high-performance acoustic doors and a mechanically ventilated system with in-line acoustic attenuation to meet planning and operational noise requirements
Construction of integrated precast firewalls within four transformer bund structures
Careful planning to maintain access for the adjacent working farm and neighbouring landowners throughout the works
Public footpath maintained around the site perimeter for the duration of the project
