This contract for the main wind farm works followed on from the £7M enabling works contract completed by RJ McLeod in 2014. The main contract included the demolition of an existing Markham wind turbine, construction of 33 no. reinforced concrete turbine bases (for 2.85MW General Electric turbines) and crane hardstanding, associated track and drainage construction, installation of 2 no. met mast foundations and construction of a 132/33kV substation platform as well as a fully furnished (312m2) control building.

Key Issues:
• Very poor ground conditions requiring a driven pile solution for 3 foundations
• Working in harsh weather conditions (600m – 800m above sea level)
• Use of 2 no. on-site borrow pits
• Installation of cables in close proximity to access tracks requiring weekend working

Principal Elements included:
Road construction 16km (8km floating / 8km founded)
Concrete 14,000m3
Reinforcement 1,700tonnes
