The contract was for the upgrading of an existing civic amenity site (built in the 1990s) situated off Renfrew Road in the south west of Glasgow. Extensive in-situ concrete slabbing was constructed as bays and within the waste transfer building, and precast units were bolted down to provide separation for various recyclable elements. A new circulation road was formed, surfaced in red asphalt (partly new construction and partly overlay of the existing hardstanding) and parallel parking/drop-off zones formed adjacent to the circulation road. Traffic management was upgraded with signage, road markings, height barriers and traffic barriers. Fencing, drainage, provision of kiosks and CCTV also formed part of the contract.
Principal Elements included:
Excavation & Disposal 6,600m3 / Type 1 Aggregate 3,400T
Surfacing 2,400m2 / Concrete 960m3
GRP Kiosks 2 no. / L-shaped pre-cast retaining walls 57m
Key Issues:
- Working within an operational waste disposal site
- Disposal of invasive species 'giant hogweed' before commencement of construction
- Working in close proximity to services companies
