RJ McLeod commenced construction in the summer of 2010 of a new 700-space park & ride facility to serve Croy Station in Cumbernauld on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), completing the contract at the beginning of 2011. The completed car park has alleviated parking problems experienced in and around the village of Croy and includes sufficient capacity to meet increased future demands from the electrification of the Edinburgh - Glasgow rail line as well as service improvements planned by Transport Scotland and Network Rail.

Principal Elements included: Cut/Fill Earthworks 17,000m3 / Kerbing 4,200m / Ductwork 5,000m / Drainage 2,000m / Porous Block Paving 9,200m2 / Attenuation Tanks 2 no. (950m3 total) / Bituminous Paved Access Roads 8,500m2 / Covered Walkway 70m / Box Culvert 30m

Key Issues:

  • Phased construction to maintain existing 'ad hoc' parking provision
  • Management of works in and around existing watercourse
  • Provision of temporary site access to minimise disturbance to adjacent traffic routes
  • Interface with pedestrian and vehicular routes to the existing station
