The works comprise the demolition of the superstructure of the existing three-span, 250t reinforced concrete bridge and its replacement with a new 32m three-span bridge deck of composite steel and reinforced concrete. The existing piers will be partially cut down and retained for use as part of the new superstructure. To allow traffic to be maintained on the A82 during the works a 36m single-span temporary bridge and carriageway has been constructed immediately adjacent to the existing bridge on the west of the existing carriageway. Temporary traffic management is required throughout the works to control traffic and provide access to the site.
Principal Elements include: Surfacing 2,700m2
Key Issues:
- Working in difficult weather conditions on an exposed site
- Site located within Rannoch Moor SSSI and SAC, and the Ben Nevis and Glen Coe NSA
- Presence of several protected species within the site boundary
- Removal of Peat Turves, protection and storage for approx 7 months, reinstatement upon completion
