The contract comprised new roads, drainage and services infrastructure for a commercial development that will eventually include hotels, car showrooms, etc. Extensive earthworks operations - carried out 'in house' - provided building plots within the roads and drainage network. A significant element of the works involved the widening and improvement of the A89 which runs adjacent to the site, including new street-lighting and traffic signalisation of two junctions. Existing service diversions, and the provision of new services to the development, were also part of our workscope. The site was partly contaminated, with asbestos removal taking place during the early part of the project.
Principal Elements included:
Earthworks 30,000m3 / Roadworks 10,000m2 / Drainage 600m
Key Issues:
- Presence of invasive species on site such as Japanese Knotweed required a combination of various eradication treatments
- Additional works of approx £1.40M awarded, taking original contract period from 29 weeks to 54 weeks
