Following on from the £0.50M enabling works contract completed in 2008, the Company also undertook construction of the main civil works whilst acting as Principal Contractor for the duration of the project including erection and commissioning of turbines. The works comprised 18 no. reinforced concrete turbine bases and hardstandings with 8.5km of new access road, both of floating and cut/fill construction. An existing forestry track and public single track road were also upgraded and widened as part of the contract. On-site borrow pits were developed and utilised to win general rockfill and processing of this was carried out on site to produce other materials including concrete aggregate which benefitted the project with the reduction in traffic movements for aggregate import.
Principal Elements included:
RC Wind Turbine Bases 18 no. / Upgraded Track 10km / New Track 8.5km
Key Issues:
- Work carried out adjacent to high quality watercourse and generally in an environmentally-sensitive habitat with regard to plant, animal and bird life, requiring high level of environmental control and planning
- Concrete produced by two on-site batchers to provide capacity and delivery cover with concrete delivered to the bases by a fleet of mixer trucks
