The works consisted of the replacement of all existing footway and carriageway construction with natural stone surfaces using granite setts and Caithness slabs. Existing kerbs were replaced by flush granite channels and trims and a new drainage system provided. Parking was relocated to the northern section between George Street and Rose Street junctions. Wall mounted street lighting lanterns were replaced with new units. Pedestrian access on both sides of the street was maintained and access to all entrances and allowance for vehicle deliveries provided throughout the duration of the contract, with the exception of the Christmas festivities period and the Edinburgh Festival period (approximately 4 weeks).
