The works consisted of the uplifting and renewing the footway surface in the Canongate from St Mary's Street to the Scottish Parliament, together with the installation of new whin kerbing and cobbled features to existing close entrances. The footway was reconstructed using Caithness paving, overlaying a concrete roadbase, and carried out in 90m long sections under traffic management. There was also a requirement also for local utilities work and attendant excavations.
Principal Elements included: Caithness Paving 2200m2 / Whin Kerbing 1100m
Key Issues:
- Pedestrian and vehicular access maintained to businesses and homes
- Protection of existing building facades
- Replacing existing service covers with recessed covers inlaid with Caithness paving
- Installation of new zebra crossing at Canongate Primary School
