The works took place on a former greenfield site in Wallyford near Musselburgh, bordered by a live railway line and two roads. The works consisted of: soil stripping and bunding for re-use, cut & fill earthworks and capping layer to site, installation of drainage lines and drain filter layer and Type 1 road construction. Permanent crash barriers and safety fencing were installed for protection of the railway line. Existing telecommunications ducts were lowered and protected and service ducts constructed for the installation of streetlighting and CCTV. Landscaping works completed the project.
Principal Elements included:
Capping Layer (6F2) 12,000t / Drainage Layer 6,000t
Priora Block Paving 4,000m2 / Kerbing 2,000 lin. m.
Asphalt Road Construction 4,405m2
Key Issues:
- Use of open graded crushed stone acting as a free-draining layer therefore minimul requirement for surface water drainage pipes
- Original existing sandstone wall dismantled and rebuilt to suit sight lines for new car park
