The contract was for the construction of a new link road between Grange Road and Prospecthill Road and the upgrading of the junction from Grange Road to Langside Road from a 3-way to a 4-way junction. The construction included deep drainage, earthworks and surfacing. Also included in the contract was the construction of a new access road and new car parking to the rear of the Victoria Infirmary. Both areas have attenuation tanks to minimise the flow into the existing sewerage system. All earthworks materials were removed from site with imported materials brought in to make good the levels. All areas of works were co-ordinated with various utility services for diversions etc.
Principal Elements included:
New Link Road -
Earthworks 6,700m3 /Imported Fill 11,500m3
Blacktop 4,200m2 / Attenuation Drainage 320m
New Car Park -
Blacktop 3,200m2 / Attenuation Tank 1 no.
Key Issues:
- Works completed prior to the start of the new build ambulatory care hospital
- Close liaison with the Victoria Infirmary during construction, maintaining access for ambulances during tie-in works
- Liaison with local residents and general public
