The contract was the fifth and final contract of the 'Small Isles and Inverie Ferry Scheme'. RJ McLeod carried out the construction of a mass concrete slipway and two mass concrete mooring dolphins with associated fendering; the construction of hardstanding areas, waiting room, storage building and oil tanks; the demolition of an agricultural shed and oil tanks; and associated earthworks and dredging.
Principal Elements included:
Mass Concrete 2,500 m3 / Armour 3,700m3
Concrete Road 1,200m2 / Block Paving 1,000m
Key Issues:
- Limited weather windows, tidal working and exposed conditions combined with logistical and environmental issues
- Remote location resulted in the Company's team residing in a purpose-built camp for the duration of project
- Project successfully delivered on programme, with over 15% of cost savings made, whilst still maintaining ferry operations
- Nominated for a Saltire Award.
