Phase I:
The contract is for the construction of concrete protection to the seward face of the breakwater. The works were required due to the poor condition of the existing harbour wall and required the construction of concrete protection to the seaward face of the breakwater. This was done by means of a shuttering system.
Phase II:
Following on from the previous year's contract, the Company carried out the placement of protective concrete toe beam by conventional means in a very tidal location with heavy wave action where diver work was not feasible.
Principal Elements included:
Mass Concrete (Phase I) 1,600m3 / Mass Concrete (Phase II) 300m3
Key Issues:
- Working in tidal conditions in an extremly exposed North Sea location subject to heavy swell and rogue waves
- Works carried out in small stages to fit in with tides
