The project involved the construction of the infrastructure works for a housing development on a green field site consisting of 250 properties spread across Phases I - V. The scope of the works included earthworks, roadworks, drainage works, services and landscaping. One of the main features within Phase I was the construction of a double box culvert which formed the main access to the new site across an existing river. The success of the contract has depended mainly on negotiation with the Client by using the excavated gravel on site as infill, crushing the extracted rock from Phase II and minimising disposal off site by utilising the woodland areas for disposing unsuitable soils. This assisted in controlling costs and ensured our continuation on site from Phase I through to Phase V.

Key Issues:

  • Co-ordination and programming of works to ensure access for follow-on sub-contractors

  • Provision of Value Engineering solutions by re-cycling excavated materials
