The contract was for the expansion of the 8-stance bus station situated at the busy Princes Shopping Mall in East Kilbride. 14 drive-through stances were provided along with associated shelters and covered walkways. A new Travel Centre/Citizens’ Advice Bureau was built. The car park and taxi rank were reconfigured and an existing underpass infilled. External works included all streetlighting, hardstandings, retaining wall, hard and soft landscaping, pedestrian barriers, trolley parks and underground ducts for Strathclyde Passenger Transport’s signage information and CCTV installation.
Principal Elements included:
8500m3 Excavation
750m3 Lean Mix Sub Base
4800m2 In-Situ Concrete Running Surface
3000m2 New Footways (including in-situ granolithic concrete)
300m3 Foam Concrete Infill to Existing Underpass
Chinese Granite & Bituminous Materials
Key Issues:
- Construction of temporary bus station within the site
- Phased sectional completion to allow continued operation of bus station and adjacent shopping centre
- Maintenance of public walkways in and around the site
- Construction of steel framed single storey building with 280m2 office space.
