Preliminary works included constructing a cattle grid and perimeter fence around work area. The main works that followed consisted of substantial earthworks to formation level and the construction of concrete foundations for electrical structures. The concrete foundations were backfilled with selected suitable site won materials and the formation trimmed and stoned to the final level. Other works include the construction of a steel framed Control Building (350m2) to the North of the site, which has several suspended floors carrying various electrical equipment. Palisade and stockproof fencing were erected around the perimeter of the site, for protection to both the public and the equipment once the substation is operational.
Principal Elements included:
Earthworks 96,000m3
Concrete Foundations 250 no.
Palisade Fencing 1,000 lin/m
Stockproof Fencing 1,500 lin/m
Imported Stone 15,000t
Key Issues:
- Silt fencing erected prior to commencement of earthworks to protect the Elvan Water which is in close proximity
- Substantial completion to allow electrical contractors to commence their works to meet outages
- Good working relationship maintained between all contractors on site
- Employment of local labour
